Writing Life & Craft
Some creative questions never really leave us.
Why does one story arrive almost fully formed while another takes years to discover? Why do certain characters refuse to be forgotten? What happens between the first spark of an idea and the final page of a novel?
The longer I spend writing, the more I realize creativity isn't something I've mastered. It's a relationship I've continued to explore. Craft matters, but so do curiosity, observation, intuition, and the willingness to remain open to surprise.
These essays are from my notebooks as I reflect on the writing life, the craft of storytelling, and the creative process itself. Some may begin with a novel. Others with a question. All are invitations to pause for a while and think about creativity together.
Perhaps you'll recognize a few thoughts you've been carrying yourself.
